Osier Dogwoods

Cornus alba ‘Ivory Halo’

Compact, multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with white-edged, mid-green leaves, clusters of tiny, yellow-white flowers in late spring, blue-white fruit in summer, and red twigs in winter.

Height: 3-6 ft.
Width: 3-6 ft.
Water: Constantly wet or moist soil
Exposure: Partial to Full Sun
Hardiness: Zone 3

Cornus sericea

Red Twig Dogwood (Cornus sericea) has wonderfully colourful wine-red twigs, beautiful all year round. For appearance sake or to restrain its size, it can have its density of twigs thinned to encourage new bright growth. Older inner branches are the ones to be trimmed to the bottom. Young outer suckers can be dug up & transplanted with ease. When not pruned, redtwig dogwood will flower well & berry profusely, but get large & by some assessments leggy. Spring-pruned specimens have much brighter red young stems come winter (or more intense golden, depending on cultivar), plus a more compact appearance for the spring through autumn foliage, but produce far fewer flowers & berries.

Cornus sericea ‘Flaviramea’

Clusters of white flowers in May and June and oval, dark green leaves, which redden in autumn and fall to reveal bright, yellow-olive winter stems. The stems of this dogwood look stunning planted alongside salmon-pink and red-stemmed varieties. An excellent specimen plant for sunny, moist areas of the garden. It's particularly effective near water.
