Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’
 
One of the most eye-catching small grasses, forming elegant arching clumps of vividly striped bright gold and lime-green foliage that holds its colour throughout the season. When grown in full sun this cultivar often develops a slight reddish tinge. Superb with hostas and other ornamental grasses liking similar conditions, and outstanding grown on its own in a striking container. Has a waterfall appearance.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Little Kitten'

dwarf, ornamental grass which typically forms a foliage clump to only 15" tall of pointed, arching, narrow, green leaves. Showy, cascading flower plumes (silvery-white with pink or reddish tinges) appear in August on stalks rising well above the foliage to a height of 30". Flowers give way to light beige seeds, with the continuing flower effect of the plumes lasting well into winter. Good fresh cut or dried flowers.

An especially refined and elegant ornamental grass. Fine leaf blades are green with clean, paper-thin, white margins that give the plant a silvery cast when viewed from a distance. This plant is luminous when backlit by the early morning or late afternoon sun. It is prized for its rounded habit that never flops. Many consider 'Morning Light' to be one of the finest cultivars of Miscanthus.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' (Porcupine Grass)

Distinctive yellowish-white, horizontal banding on the green leaves of this cultivar seem to glow when backlit by the early morning or late afternoon sun. This grass requires a very long, hot growing season to be able to produce flowers. When it does, they are spectacular pinkish copper plumes that appear in early fall. As the seeds mature, they become fluffy, and are a great accent to the reddish-tan winter foliage.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Desert Plains'
 
Hardy and graceful, fountain grass that makes a dazzling focal point in a sunny landscape. It is easy to grow and needs at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. Desert Plains is a seedling of 'Cassian', but has an improved habit, better flowering performance, and richer fall color. Forming a stunning upright vase-shaped clump, Desert Plains’ fine textured leaves make a transition from green with deep red tips, to shades of orange and bronze in the fall. It bursts into bloom with its showy, large 5 inch long, mauve-colored bottlebrush plumes early fall; about 2 weeks later than 'Cassian'. Once this ornamental grass is established, it takes on the heat, humidity, and punishing sun effortlessly. It tolerates drought, is easy to grow, and is deer resistant.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Fox Trot'
Formerly known as Pennisetum a. 'Japonicum
 
This grass forms a dense clump of foliage as tall as it is wide. The narrow, green leaves turn a stunning golden color in the fall. In late summer, smoky-rose, bottlebrush-like plumes measuring 6-8 inches or longer are produced. As they age, the plumes develop a white tuft at the end like a fox's tail. Perhaps this is why it was given the name 'Foxtrot'. Deer resistant.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'

'Hameln' is a dwarf form of fountain grass, and is the oldest cultivar of Pennisetum alopecuroides. Use it wherever the straight species would be too tall. Blooms earlier than the species, making it a better choice for gardens with a short growing season.

Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Piglet'

The perfect size fountain grass! Many gardeners have wished for a fountain grass that was taller than 'Little Bunny' but shorter than 'Hameln'. Their wishes have been granted! 'Piglet' measures in at just about 18 inches, or knee height. It makes a fabulous tall edging and can also be grown in patio containers. In mid to late summer, full, tawny plumes cascade up and above the finely textured, green foliage.
